AIRTEC – More than a trade exhibition

Welcome Address

Peter Hintze, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, Federal Government Coordinator of German Aerospace Policy

Ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to Airtec 2010 in Frankfurt/ Main, Germany!

Being a trade fair in the supply industry, Airtec has earned its reputation in the business in by now five years. Today it is an integral part of the German trade fair landscape – at one of the most important air hubs in the world. I am pleased to see such a successful result!

Since 2006 Airtec contributes to better connect the suppliers in the aerospace industry and to intensify the dialogue between suppliers and users. This way, Airtec contributes an important share for development of the business and is able to encourage the aerospace industry after the economic and financial depression. Such as other sectors the aerospace industry had to suffer substantial setbacks. The decrease in aircraft orders proved this fact painfully. Depression affected the supply chain in its complexity in very different ways.

We all hope that we have now reached the bottom and can look ahead full of confidence. The Federal Government of Germany has adopted important measures in the past months to relieve the situation of the enterprises and to give sustainable impulses of growth. I am optimistic about the fact that the aerospace industry, a dynamic and highly innovative business with exceptional economic capacity will quickly liven up again and be able to look forward to good times.

The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology will contribute its share to maintain the capacity and competitiveness of the German aerospace supply industry. The aerospace research programme of the Federal Government has proved successful and will be continued. This specifically applies to the combine programmes that rely on the synergies of system producers, suppliers and research institutes and consequently account for the request of Airtec. The National Space Programme also has the agenda to expand the technology and market leadership of german enterprises and to strengthen the competitiveness in commercial fields such as communication, navigation and terrestrial observation.

The German supply industry and its enterprises with their expertise and innovation are global accepted partners. This is how it should be also in the future. My objective is that research, development and production of aerospace technologies occur in Germany. Being strong and innovative enterprises the German supplier industry will be able to face technological and structural challenges successfully. The German supply industry is still basically characterized by small and medium-sized enterprises and strongly fragmented. A stronger network in this field can lead to more synergies. Events like Airtec can conduce to simplify the process of consolidation.

With this in mind I wish you an inspiring fair attendance and best of luck and success for the future!
